Lampshade Care & Safety Regulations

Cleaning/care of the lampshades

As the lampshade are all handmade, please take care when unwrapping them. Ideally use clean hands as they can mark easily.

When you are ready to clean the lampshade, gently remove it from it’s base and wipe it down from the top to the bottom using a clean, soft cloth or a feather duster. As the lampshades are made of paper, please be mindful not to clean with any water.

Position of the lampshades

Ideally do not place the lampshades in direct sunlight as there could be some sun damage over time. If you are going to use the paper lampshades in a bathroom, please be careful not to expose them too closely to steam created by condensation.

I would not recommend placing the lampshade in a room with extreme variation of temperatures. The lampshades are not waterproof and not suitable for outdoor use.

Light bulb information

I always strongly recommend using energy efficient low wattage light bulbs. Not only does it provide a much gentler and prettier overall light, but it is a much more sustainable approach to lighting. It also avoids any unwanted marks caused by high wattage light bulb.

Light bulb recommendations for Non Pleated Lampshades:

All my lampshades (except the Pleated shades) are lined with a fire-resistant card which complies with BS EN 60598-1-2008, the British Standard for Luminaries.

With the exception of my Pleated lampshades, we recommend a lightbulb wattage of no higher than 40 wattage for the larger lampshades (Small sizes and above) and 20 wattage (long life) for my Wall Light and Petite sizes.

Light bulb requirements for the Pleated Lampshades

Pleated Wall Light size: LED 3 Watt Candle Light Bulb, 250 Lumen - a very warm light.

These are equivalent to the old 20 Watt light bulb, they typically have a 20,000 hour life expectancy and use just 20% of the power of an old incandescent light bulb and produce significantly less heat.

Pleated Petite size:  LED 3 Watt Golf Ball Light Bulb, 250 Lumen  - a very warm light

These are equivalent to the old 25 Watt light bulb, they typically have a 20,000 hour life expectancy and use just 20% of the power of an old incandescent light bulb and produce significantly less heat.

The lamp bases are made in England and are wired for 240 volts with a 3amp fuse and are CE marked, as required by the current regulations.
